That’s a wrap on Living History Camp!
This June, history came to life at Union Church thanks to a wonderful partnership with the Kerr County Historical Commission (KCHC), who helped make our Living History Camp a week to remember.
We want to first thank the incredible families and children who participated from June 16 to 20. Your energy, curiosity, and excitement made every moment meaningful. Camp highlights included making soap and cleaning wool with The Sheepwalk Ranch, exploring archery, creating homemade pickles, crafting personalized picture frames, and joining in on the high-energy “Run for Your Life” game led by Texas Parks and Wildlife.
A special thanks goes to the Kerr County Historical Commission, whose support made this camp possible. Through their generous funding of materials, food, and scholarships, they helped open the door for many young historians to take part. KCHC members also gave their time and energy all week long—leading activities, engaging with campers, and sharing their knowledge of our local heritage.
We’re also incredibly grateful to the collaborators and presenters who enriched the experience with their passion and expertise: Hill Country Archeological Association, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Heart of the Hills Fisheries Science Center, The Sheepwalk Ranch, Fort McKavett, Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library, Clifton Fifer, Leroy Schlechte (presenting as Charles Schreiner), Barbara Oates (presenting as Emily Schreiner Real), and Julius and Janie Neunhoffer. Their contributions brought the past vividly to life for our campers.
Looking ahead, we are applying for additional funding to grow the program in 2026 at our future site—the A.C. and Myrta Schreiner House on the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library campus. If you’re interested in supporting this exciting opportunity to reach more young historians, please reach out to Angela Kennedy at akennedy@hhheritagecenter.org. Your involvement can help shape the future of this meaningful program.
