The Heart of the Hills Heritage Center, in partnership with the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library welcomes local author Richard Butler for a special presentation on his book, Hill Country Ball. Through the unforgettable stories in his book, author Richard W. Butler Jr. reveals the essential role of baseball in cementing community bonds when everything else seemed torn asunder by economic hardship. The book also features the poignant story of the Kerrville All-Stars, a Black team that triumphed over the twin depredations of the Depression and Jim Crow to unify their community through sheer prowess and mettle.
Join us at the library for an engaging author talk, followed by a book signing and light refreshments next door at the Heart of the Hills Heritage Center. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Artifacts from the Kerrville All-Stars baseball team are on view in the Shared Streets, Separate Stories: Kerrville within Ethnic Communities exhibit at the Heritage Center. Heritage Center exhibits will be open for viewing with a suggested donation at the event.
