Location, Location, Location

The windows of the new—and still under construction—Heart of the Hills Heritage Center offer sweeping views of its beautiful grounds and its prime location on historic Water Street. Nestled in the former home of A.C. and Myrta Schreiner, the museum sits just steps from the heart of Kerrville, near the intersection of Water and Sidney Baker Streets. Visitors will find plenty of free parking conveniently located just across the street.

The new museum is in good company. Right next door is the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library, and just two doors down stands the Kerr Regional History Center, once the home of W. Scott Schreiner and part of what was affectionately known as “wedding row.” To the south is the printing shop of Kerrville’s current mayor, Joe Herring, Jr.

A short walk from the Heritage Center takes you to the river below—just follow the ramp down and cross the footbridge into Louise Hays Park. From within the park, look back and you’ll spot the museum’s chimney peeking out above the riverbank, a quiet symbol of the history housed inside.

So much of Kerrville’s story is within walking distance of the Heritage Center, making it a perfect hub for exploring our community’s rich past. Renovations are ongoing, so stay tuned for updates as we prepare to open the doors to this exciting new chapter in local history.
